Future of Solar Power in Alberta - Industry Panel Discussion

Alberta is forging a new path based on the proposed climate change initiatives and policies. By 2030, the Government’s goal is to have 30% of electricity generation in Alberta supplied by renewable energy.

Solar energy currently accounts for less than 0.1% of Alberta’s electricity generation capacity. What is a practical and achievable goal for the future? Does Alberta have the right policy environment to incentivize an increase in solar energy development? What are the challenges for setting up utility-scale solar projects? And how large of a role can micro-generation projects play?

On February 12, 2018, ELSE University of Calgary & IEEE Student Group will be hosting a symposium on solar energy’s potential in Alberta. A panel will be assembled to present and field questions related to the economics of solar projects, the hurdles in developing utility-scale projects, and a comparison of policies across different provinces and states.

Confirmed panelists will be present from Elemental Energy Inc., KCP Energy, SolAgra Canada Inc., and Solas Energy Consulting. Join us to find out more about the opportunities and challenges solar energy has to offer in Alberta.
